Building a Great Culture - Part 47/28/2020 ‘A culture of greatness doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when a leader expects greatness and each person in the organization builds it, lives it, values it, reinforces it and fights for it.’ – Jon Gordon, an American author and speaker.
It is a proverbial truism that people are at the center of every effective organizational culture. When you create a culture of greatness you create a collective mindset in your organization that expects great things to happen – even during dreadfully challenging times that we are in now. This is because culture drives behaviour, behaviour drives habits and habits in turn create the future. As the leaders at Apple say, “Culture beats strategy all day long.” After all, an organisation made up of the best people in the business is itself the best in the business. And organisations that are intentional about their culture and not leaving it to chance are the ones that are successful in the long run. Just like culture of greatness doesn’t happen by accident, it can’t happen by decree either. It has to come from within the employees. An organisation is always a reflection of the person at the helm. When the leader knows his responsibility, the employees are sure to follow his example, rather his dictated orders to strive for what holds them altogether. Then, the acts of dreaming, striving, attaining and maintaining the greater ground becomes their combined and shared goal. Greatness is just about getting the basics right, over and over again. It is not difficult for organisations to create a culture of greatness. Yet they fail to do so. So, the pertinent question now is - Do you have the culture you want and need for your organisation?
